DescriptionThe Ninety Six National Historic Site is a Revolutionary War battle site that commemorates the first battle south of New England fought on November 19-21, 1775 and the longest field siege of the American Revolution, lasting 28 days in May –June 1781. Ninety Six played an important role in a series of events that ultimately led to the defeat and surrender of the British at Yorktown, Virginia in October 1781. The historic site is a unit of the National Park Service, a bureau of the United States Department of the Interior. Ninety Six got its name around 1730 because it was (mistakenly) believed to be 96 miles from there to Keowee, which was a Lower Cherokee town, near where Clemson, SC is today. You can view the remnants of the Cherokee Path & many other historic roads at Ninety Six National Historic Site. Established in 1976, this 1,022 acre park has much to offer! The park grounds are available daily from sunrise to sunset. The visitor center is open Wednesday – Sunday, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm; closed Mondays and Tuesdays. *** NOTE: Please verify the dates, times, and fee schedules of this information on the National Park Service website for the Ninety Six Historical Site. *** Outdoor activities at the Ninety Six National Historic Site in South Carolina include: Tours Annual Events at Ninety Six National Historic Site ** 2015 Event Dates ** 96 Crossroads - April 4-5 Guided Tours - April 11 through September 27 (Saturdays and Sundays only)
